  • At year’s end, WaterTAP introduced the GREENLAND® Group to a Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) team developing an Indigenous Youth Program at the Bolton Camp in Caledon, Ontario. GREENLAND® will provide financial assistance for a new internship program. Since 2016, Urban Watershed Group Limited (GREENLAND® Group affiliate) has served as the engineer-of-record for the Bolton Camp development design team led by LGA Architectural Partners. The attached project profile outlines work now completed by the GREENLAND® Group affiliate, Urban Watershed Group.
The idea for the Youth Program was developed by TRCA, Native Canadian Centre of Toronto, University of Toronto, and with support from Ryerson University. The Program will explore a participatory model for practice that includes the voices of Indigenous Youth and Elders/Traditional Knowledge Keepers (TKK) in planning and designing for green infrastructure. This initiative is motivated by the need to address a lack of Indigenous people in green infrastructure work; integrate Indigenous themes of respect, relationship, reciprocity, responsibility into planning and design; and, address a growing intergenerational gap on traditional environmental knowledge. The new 2018 summer internship program will connect Indigenous youth with Elders/TKK on the land while they learn new ideas and skills in an engaging way (with visiting mentors) and to encourage them to consider career opportunities in green infrastructure. A documentary filmmaker (preferable Indigenous) will be hired to teach the youth about film making and as a storytelling exercise about the experience. The youth and Elders/TKK will also be invited to drop in to participate in winter term graduate courses on green infrastructure being taught at the University of Toronto and Ryerson University, with visits to project sites to look for opportunities for green infrastructure, Indigenous place-making, and interpretive walking tours to celebrate natural and cultural history.
For many years, GREENLAND® has financially supported (and participated in) environmental stewardship and education partnerships with Canada’s First Nations and Métis Nations. This includes the BEAHR (ECO Canada) Aboriginal Training Program and curriculum programs offered by the Anishinabek Educational Institute.

Moriyama & Teshima Architects

On behalf of Moriyama & Teshima Architects, I would like to thank you for your high level of competence and involvement expressed in the design process on the Keele Street Public School Addition and Renovation project… I felt you were integral and instrumental in coming in and taking the project from an ill-fated design…to design completion, tender and the approvals stage. You showed high levels of knowledge and understanding in your field, and your thoroughness and professionalism have led to the success of this project to date. I am thoroughly satisfied in the way you designed the services system, dealt with authorities having jurisdiction, and for your recommendations regarding budgetary concerns.

I would not hesitate in recommending you as a civil engineering consultant on any further project I am involved with.

Six Nations Council

On behalf of the Environment Office of the Six Nations of the Grand River, we would like to thank Greenland International Consulting Limited for the work completed to prepare the Master Drainage and Flood Remediation Plan (MDFRP) for the McKenzie Creek watershed. This plan has now enabled our office to identify the flood prone residences throughout the watershed with the flood plain mapping that has been prepared as part of this assignement. We appreciate the role that Greenland has played in assisting our office in directing Public Works with prioritizing the remedial projects to be completed in the flood prone areas.

We also appreciate Greenland's effort in assisting the Six Nations of the Grand River with the preparation of funding applications to secure the resources to complete these remedial works. We are convinced that this MDFRP can be used as a template for completing similar drainage and flood remediation works both locally and in other First Nations lands.

We look forward to working with your company again in the near future on the remaining watersheds that need this important work done.

Thank you for your ongoing assistance.

Credit Valley Conservation

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your work on the Brampton “Pond 10 Floating Islands Research Project”. This project was a “first of its kind” within our watershed.

Greenland was responsible for preparing the design brief for the islands that provided details on the anchoring system design, safety considerations and a strategy for establishing a vegetation community among other things. This was a challenging project given that there was no pre-established process to follow and therefore we were defining the design and implementation process from scratch.

Greenland was always very responsive when issues arose and helped us troubleshoot options to solve the issue. They refined the design brief and assisted CVC with implementing improved anchor designs that have been successful in keeping the islands stable over the past few years even though some extreme weather events.

We were very pleased with the consulting services Greenland provided for this project.
